You Otter Sea This
Title c/o Amanda, post evening run, at the height of a significant calorie deficit. This is the best we could come up with, because no title could possibly do this video justice.
I love otters.
I love that baby otter fur is so dense that they can’t dive underwater, so the parent otters tangle the babies in kelp or leave them on boats or docks when they go searching for food.
I love that they have built-in pockets under their arms to store their favorite rocks, and I love that they hold hands when they sleep so they don’t drift apart. I can’t stop smiling when I remember that a group of resting otters is called a raft.
What I love most about them, though, is that they prioritize play time well into adulthood.
I could talk about otter facts ad nauseam, but the only musing here is that the best part about Monterey Bay is the otters.
While in Capitola, CA for my friend Becky’s bachelorette party last weekend, I spent my mornings wandering the beach to watch the otters play in the surf.
In the video below, you’ll find a love story of two otters who drifted apart then found each other again. I highly recommend turning the volume up to hear them communicating with each other (the other voices are Monika and Brian narrating, and a commentator for the junior lifeguard event happening by the pier).
I hope this video brightens your day as much as it does mine.
Shana tova to those who celebrate!
